Toppy Seeds.

By an arrangement entered into between the British

Government and the Goverment of Chino, when revising the

Customs teriff of Chins which onme in force in August. 1919, the British Government agreed that the importation of poppy seeds would be prohibited (vide Tariff Rule 4). Nevertheless the Indian Government has spparently taken no steps to prohibit the direct exportation of such poppS seeds to ūkinu. Recently a parcel of poppy seeda posted in India and clearly marked "yoppy seeda" was couspted for transmission and was about to be delivered to the Japanese addresses in Tientsin when the China Justoma ssised the parcel in question. The shipment was by MBK end the addressee was MBK Tientsin. Recently a shipment of some five tons of poppy seeds which rençasć ühina destined for the province of Hunan would strongly appear to be of Indian origin. The recorda of seizuren made by

the Chinese Customa show that in many instances consigamenta of Indian poppy seeds have been seized in the Southern

ports of China.
